Happy Birthday, Honey!

I think birthdays are amazing. Every person gets one day every year--only one day, but every single year--that is all about him or her. One day when everything is all about you: what do you want to eat? Where do you want to go? What do you want to do? When do you want to do it? What do you want to wear?

Some people (like Honey) don't particularly enjoy birthdays. That means that I now have two days when everything is about me: My birthday, July 14th, and his birthday, December 10. His birthday is all about me, because I have to make sure I make everything perfect for him. It's amazing. He usually does not mind what I choose, so I get to choose what I want. And when he has a particular wish, I usually agree with it, so it's still about me (technically).

Honey turned 26 this past Friday--which is cool, because I've decided to turn 23 in July. We had a party in Billiard Galerie--amazing place, amazing people, amazing service, the best cocktails in the world (and remember, I've tasted cocktails in a pretty big chunk of the world, so I know what I'm talking about). His friends were there, his sister was there, a couple of my friends were there, I was there... it was, in my opinion, the best birthday he has ever had!

His birthday got even better than expected, when his best friend missed his flight back to Mexico and suprised him. ¡Fede, te amamos!

It was fun. Honey got a lot of gifts (which means I got a lot of gifts!). There was some dancing (I refuse to post the videos...), there was some singing (those videos can be seen in Honey's facebook page), there was some pool-playing, some dart-throwing, tons of shot-drinking... and then, at 6 a.m., there was some breakfast-eating :-)

Of course, like with any normal, traditional birthday, there was a cake. But this cake was special, because I baked it. Yes, you read that right: I BAKED A CAKE. And not only did I bake a cake, I also decorated the cake. And it tasted delicious--that, or Germans are extremely polite! And it was not a just-add-water-type of cake, I had to add eggs and other stuff.

Happy birthday, Honey. With this awesome beginning, your 26th year will definitely be one to remember!

I hate marketing

I hate marketing. I hate it. I hate it -- because it works. You see, I'm getting married in seven months (yay me! Check out our wedding website ), and I need to do all the planning here in Germany for a wedding taking place in the Caribbean coast of Colombia. It does seem like a challenge, but I am an amazing planner and I can do it. Also, my mom and sister/Maid of Honor have it all under control. But, as I said, since I'm in Germany, there are many things I need to do online. So I have to rely on websites to kinda figure out what I want. Before I went online, I took advice from my good friend Hope (who also recently married) and closed my eyes and imagined my perfect wedding. This is what my perfect wedding looks like: At the beach, hopefully getting our feet wet while saying "I do", at sunset, with only our closest family and friends (so, no more than 20 people), drinking piña coladas and eating fish and coconut rice, listening to soothing background music a

Find someone who makes you laugh

When I was 16, I had a boyfriend. One of my mom's friends, very close to the family and for whom I cared very much, once asked me (in front of my mom) if said boyfriend made me laugh. In trying to be bold and mature and, well, in trying to surprise and scare my mom, I said, "Well, yeah, kinda. But most importantly, he is awesome in bed!" I was lying, in case anyone is freaking out. My mom was (and probably is again now) freaking out. Her friend simply said, "Whatever, that is not important. What is important is that he makes you laugh. That is the most important thing: to be with someone who makes you laugh." This is perhaps the best piece of advice I have ever been given. Be with someone who makes you laugh . Because, the thing is, this not only refers to sex partners. This is true for life, and for everyone in your life. In my life. In counting my friends, I realize we laugh a lot together. Bear in mind that most my friends are English majors, like me; so ou

My Synthesizing Abilities

I had my first ever oral exam last week. I had never before had an oral exam. I don't consider my thesis presentation an oral exam, because I had two hours to present and support my thesis, and then answer questions from my panel - questions which I had already discussed with each one of the panel members individually. So that was no stress. And my thesis was awesome. But the German system is very interesting, and I had to take one 15-minute oral exam for The Alamo Seminar. It was one whole semester on The Alamo and how it was represented in film, literature and popular culture. I am now an Alamo expert. I challenge my historian friends Julie and Joe to ask me anything they want. Not everyone is required to take this oral exam for this seminar, so out of a class of 30, I think I was one of three who took this exam. I figured that the teacher would let us go easy and just make sure that we did do the readings; since I event to every single class (perfect attendance) and particip
